Birmingham gloam-pop group Homeowner will release its second EP, Video Nasty, on Friday May 8.

The release sees Homeowner expand on its kitchen sink indie sound with influences from the stranger margins of new wave and Britpop, taking cues from the likes of XTC, The Stranglers, Space, Talking Heads, Edwyn Collins, Monochrome Set and Pulp.

Across four songs – ‘Binmen Sympathisers’, ‘I’m the Problem’, ‘Memorex 240’, and ‘Rug Doctor’– songwriter Sean Murray pits bouncy synths and spiky guitars against lyrics that document council strikes, stay-at-home inadequacy, and VHS nostalgia.

Murray says: “This record rejoices at ordinary and somewhat outmoded ways of life, be it programming video machines to record your weekly serials or hiring heavy-duty carpet cleaners at a competitive rate.

“While tongues are firmly pressed into cheeks, there is still a scent of doom to Video Nasty, as well as scathing self-criticism and paranoia for the emotionally unstable Indie purists out there.”
